Agreed. I want to support shows that make the effort to present WoC in positive roles. I would have loved to have had this show when I was growing up. It would have probably helped a lot with my struggles with self-hatred and acceptance of my heritage.

Right. I wouldn’t even dare try to speak over or for folks who are upset about the casting cause that’s not my lane to speak in. I’ve just been responding tonight to what i’m sent with what i know at this point and that’s all come from seeing on twitter and articles. I still plan to watch cause i thought the pilot was fun but i certainly don’t begrudge anyone who chooses not to because of the valid criticisms brought up now

I thought everything had to have a source or it got kicked out.

I do know that Hollywood lumps darker skinned Italians, Latinx, and light skinned black people all into one group. They all get sent out for the same work. Casting directors see PoC as interchangeable as long as the skin color matches their expectations. Lou Diamond Philips played Mexican roles for years and he’s not Latinx.

I do want to support the show because it has WoC, but I am disappointed.

I definitely understand and share the disappointment on this. I do however still want to support the show purely based off the ugliness of the OG actresses about having a reboot at all and how they encouraged folks to not support it just because it was happening.

@rhiannonfrater I have no idea but aren’t most those things made where anyone that has a membership can fill things in? I only knew of one of these actresses before this show and had no idea of her exact heritage and with all this going on unless she has said somewhere I’ve missed as far as Madeleine I still don’t know anything other than the fact that she’s British

I’m still going to watch charmed because it has woc leads, but i’m upset that they promoted it as latinx representation and yet only one of the sisters is played by a latina actress. I thought Sarah jeffrey was latina because she’s played another latina character but she said in the nycc roundtable interview that she isn’t latin that her father is african american and her mother is indigenous canadian. (it’s on youtube she says it at the 6.12 mark)

Sarah Jeffrey’s father is Mexican, not African American.

Madeleine Mantock is Afro Latina.

Melonie Diaz is Puerto Rican

I’m not entirely sure about the interview, but all three women appear to be latinx. If anyone can find anything else that goes against what I’ve said, please let me know. But I was under the impression that they were all Latinx.

Oh my god. OH MY GOD

Please tell me that the antis didn’t go as far as to plant a fake story. Jesus christ…

I know I have seen a story that has spurred a lot of the upset on twitter about this I believe it was on the Mary Sue and another that made a point to say that Sarah identifies as African American and Madeleine identifies as Afro Caribean. I don’t think I retweeted either myself, just read the one with these things which was an opinion piece but wow cause folks are still talking about this on twitter tonight while dragging the new ad campaign the CW just dropped..

Yeah, I read and reblogged an article about it. IF it’s true Sarah and Madeline aren’t Latina, the show deserves criticism about the casting.

It’s not enough to cast actors and actresses that “pass” for a race they aren’t. Hollywood really thinks people of color are interchangeable.

Right. I just got an ask about Sarah but have no idea if any of the other actresses have addressed this but like you said if it is true about the other actresses, sans Melonie, then it’s warranted. It’s not the first time and the CW’s casting director has a twitter account so i have no idea if folks are taking this to him or just posting tweets and threads. I just know what I’ve been seeing on my TL here and there

I watched that interview by Sarah jeffrey and she herself does say that she isn’t latin its on youtube here is the link /watch?v=hT34TOFNUis .

Posting for those who wanna see. I’ve not been saying or posting anything really about this because I’m not latinx so it’s not my lane. All I know is the one article I read that I spoke about in that ask reblog. I didn’t read the one from The Mary Sue cause I stopped checking for them over there some time ago for some other things.
