I swear if I read “they wanted to leave the show so you’re wrong for being upset” one more time…. It’s especially irritating because I see this every time a black character is killed off on a mostly or all white show. And usually the actor/actress has either been mistreated behind the scenes or barely gets anything to do onscreen. It doesn’t occur to them at all if that if that actor/actress was actually being treated right they might have decided to stay instead of moving on.

2/2 lol yeah that fandom has for sure been showing it’s true colors this weekend. What’s ridiculous and not surprising is they are basically they are saying it’s become toxic because of the people that are upset about the death and are calling out the racism on the show.

Speaking the truth anon. THe post I’ve seen crossing all weekend just have me shaking my head

1/2 Yeah people are definitely spinning that actor’s interview in order to excuse the decision. All while ignoring the fact that the people upset aren’t just upset about the death (though that alone would be enough), but also the lack of development and focus that character received compared to the white characters for multiple seasons. And this isn’t the first time this creator has killed off a black character like that. She did the same thing a few years ago on another show when she was the

2/2 showrunner. And it was literally the same kind of situation where the black character on an all white show basically sacrifices themselves for white character(s). So it looks like a pattern at this point.

Well…

What’s sad is I’m not even surprised that they killed that character off and I stopped watching early in Season 2 because of how they treated their non-white characters in general. The best part is seeing people in that fandom justifying it by saying the actor wanted to leave when a good amount of them are still upset about Le/xa’s death & have rightfully never accepted the actress leaving the show as a legitimate excuse for her death. But of course that anger doesn’t apply to black characters.

And if we are talking about the same show and character that isn’t even true because I read a quote about what that actor wished they could have done and continued with and by end of it it sounds like this was a choice made for them, not by them. I have my own issues with the fandom and the other you mentioned in unison but your feelings about the show is why i never started it. the former just confirmed my decision on that. Also considering this character /just/ got joined by another actor so tptb could finally say they had more than one black character…whew.

I think with Kat & Adena, many folks have constructed how the viewed them and their relationship before SLS aired. I think this season is reflective on some of the holes S1 had. They love each other, yes but how their relationship formed and grew into what is now, was always kinda messy. The one thing that has been very prominent in this season is communication. I can’t think of most shows who don’t rely on lack of communication for plot fodder only to bring it up for a 90 sec resolution (1/4)

This SL being fleshed out with all its issues that come with newbie relationships like this is so nice to see and frustrating. I get wanting more of good times but less of the tribulations , some episodes I do lol, but this show was never that. I personally would like a little more expansion on this episode because it needs it and some more Adena perspective. In no way do I see Adena being strung along. She chose Kat over anything and realizes the importance of this experience is for Kat.(2/4)

A partner would be happy in a open giving relationship as they can see them grow. With Adena, people keep being surprised about her actions this season. I think it’s reflective in maturity and experiences which throws peoples HCs about her off. For Kat, as much as she goes into things headfirst, no pun intended, she is at least communicating what is going on. Kat is not the best gf right now but she wants to be. Them having these adult conversations makes this story line 1000 better (¾)

Am I yelling at my screen telling Kat to get herself together? Hell yes. Am I also happy to see her experiences, you’re damn right. We’re not supposed to place these characters as flawless people. We are open to discuss these flaws and critique them but to split the characters down to who was the worst is unnecessary. I think we are on a realistic angst train for the rest of this season and on.Opening up critiques with the writers has been important to this show. Can’t Be Bold without it (4/4)

I’m just gonna say yes and post!

I’ve been seeing hints of the whole Adena the “pure angel that has never done anything wrong” who puts up with Kat the selfish jerk”narrative since the season started. I still remember people actually trying to blame Kat for the Adena/Sutton conflict in 2×03 by implying Kat forced Adena to take the job. So I knew if Kat was getting criticized for stuff that wasn’t even her fault that once she actually did something wrong things were going to get even worse.

Yeah I saw that about the photog job too and again that was wild. Adena is a grown woman who needed and took that job and admitted herself she’d disrespected Sutton. That didn’t have a damn thing to do with Kat or the fact that Kat put Sutton in a bad spot to feel as if she had no choice but to choose her before the shoot began. Those were two separate issues between all of those Adults.

The fandom really has been doing the most for awhile and for me this is just from stuff I’ve seen pass my dash or twitter TL cause I long stopped going in the tags so that’s saying a lot

gaysunfire@work: So, Hello Again is an older musical in which disparate people have love stories crossing various time periods. in the original, the Politician is a male role, but they wanted to add more rep, and they had mlm roles, so they cast Martha Plimpton. Audra plays The Actress who The Politician is in love with. the entire cast is amazing, and i’m so pissed it was a limited release.

Thank you for this info Jab. I and most my dash must find this now because that gifset was…a revelation and it’s a musical? Bih I’m ready!

Plus adena cheated on coco so she does kinda deserve the same to happen to her

I don’t know if this is unfinished or for me even or what anon but I’m not one for an eye for an eye kinda talk. Those two situations were completely structured different ways and Adena made her amends for what she did with Coco in her own way. I rarely like to use that term of who “deserves” in relationships real and fictional because nothing is hardly ever that cut and dry, black and white. This isn’t about a competition for pain and one ups. Mistakes were made and folks gotta learn from those and no prior situation if learned from and better from it, warrants a “gotcha” moment later on down the road.

I’d get the freakouts and backlash if we were getting Grey’s type of unnecessary relationship drama that typically ends with the cause of the drama/angst not being properly resolved or glossed over entirely, but so far these writers have not done anything like that. I’m personally not big on angst for my ships while it’s happening, but I can appreciate it once things have settled because it usually makes the relationship stronger. And I really do think this will be the case with Kat & Adena.

Yep, folks just can’t seem to handle actual storytelling for these two. Folks can’t expect for them to be treated like full-fledged characters who matter AND a couple that matters and have no story. Real relationships come with ups and downs and conflicts and Kadena is being treated with care and realism to show us all of that.

There is more to Kat than just Adena and Jane and Sutton and thankfully this year we also are getting more Adena outside of just Kat. These things were bound to intersect and cause realistically written action
