“[Also] my parents on the show, they’re very supportive of my sexual preference, and maybe this can serve as an inspiration to parents at home watching who are dealing with a child who is gay or lesbian and not knowing how to communicate or be as a open. I hope that our family on the show is an inspiration for some families just to be open and accept your children and love them. The Pierce family does a great job of doing that.” ― Nafessa Williams for Entertainment Weekly

Do you think other meta heroes will actually appear in Black Lightning? Not necessarily as main cast members, but just to broaden the universe?

Gosh I hope so. I’m still hoping that Grace comes back and we discover she has her powers and others would definitely be cool. Idk why but I feel like whatever is in that briefcase Tobias ended up with is gonna bring out some pretty dangerous folks and may fall in line for more too

Anissa is such a good superhero because she became a superhero because she wanted to help people. She didn’t have some turning point or some tragedy happen to make her a superhero. Shes just always been an activist for helping people and once she got her superpowers, boom, she knew she wanted to use it to help others. Shes a minority character (black and lesbian) trying to make the world a better place and that makes her one of the most realistic superheroes I’ve ever seen. Even before becoming a superhero she was a strong activist which makes her becoming a superhero so realistic and in character. Ok thats all i love her thank you and good night.

I think what I can relate to in Anissa is that she’s aware of her calling. She walks in it fearlessly. I have that aspect of myself of just knowing what I want from life. I was always very clear of what my dreams were and I’ve always had the vision, and nobody was ever able to stop me.
