Does anyone else find Anissa really inconsiderate? Especially when it comes to romantic relationships.
So first you’re asking if we find her inconsiderate in life, in general? ABSOLUTELY not. I’d strongly disagree there.
We’ve seen her in ONE romantic relationship and yeah hmm I don’t know what to make of her flaw when it comes to romance. I do know this idea she just ghosted Grace then came to her job to hang out with another woman needs more looking into, that would be extremely inconsiderate or worse if it actually happened but again, I SERIOUSLY doubt she knew Grace was working there.
That wasn’t even her party, it was Zoe’s and Grace was working at the event as wait staff.
OP and folks like them doing everything to justify shit talking Anissa cause they refuse to accept this ship was always slow burn, smh
Oh YEAH I forgot that was Zoe’s party, too. I don’t know if op was implying Anissa was flirting with another woman at Grace’s workplace, for clarification, but it’s something I’ve seen mentioned a few times that just doesn’t make sense.
Anissa… the woman who insists on doing everything she can to help her people even if it hurts her because she cares about their rights being violated and their collective hurt, the 23-25 year old woman who watches after her 15-17 year old sister like it is literally her job to protect her even if it means upsetting her and has spent the last however many episodes trying to tend to her emotional reaction to discovering she has powers (that’s what all the “it’s a gift”, “look at the good it does”, “you don’t know you can’t have kids. Dad has powers and we’re here”, and generally trying to convince her she’s not a freak is about)…is she inconsiderate? She’s quite literally the opposite of the definition as a general part of her personality.
So to say “especially” in romantic relationships doesn’t make sense to me because it indicates a basal level of thoughtlessness that is heightened in romance.
If you said “particularly” in romance, it would imply that even if that’s not a general trait, it reveals itself in these specific relationships. And i might be inclined to agree… if we’d seen her in more than one romantic relationship and actually got to see more of that relationship dynamic over time.
All we have canonically is she was dating Chenoa and kept her at arm’s length, then met Grace and started pursuing her before ending things with Chenoa. Then she was spending time with Grace and trying to connect with her, left her a voicemail when she hadn’t seen her in a while. And then we meet Zoe after Grace has been MIA for however long. That’s it. We know absolutely nothing else about what’s happened. Fan theories are not facts.
@shaloved30 I don’t disagree. I also have criticisms and questions about their choices. I only disagree when it’s said summarily that season 3 was bad.
Yeah. I guess it all depends on if that statement for whoever lies in the fact that the frustration outweighed the good for them or who their bias lays with most. I know if you come for mostly Nova and Nova alone you gonna feel that way on her behalf. There’s no way around it, book or no book lol
@queenvibranium season 3 was highly disappointing for a lot of us in a lot of areas because of things we felt unnecessary. Micah’s story arc was about the only satisfying outcome other than the wedding.
It’s pretty disappointing that before Thundergrace can even fucking do anything it’s already like Anissa vs Grace-ish. Already seeing somewhere in some vague conflict we have no details of yet that Anissa is the “bad guy”.
I don’t know if it’s the writing in these shows or the fandom, but there’s always reason to hate/hate on the black woman. ALWAYS. ALWAYS. Not even just as part of a ship, but in general. Fandom can never seem to empathize with a black woman, see things from her perspective, give her the benefit of the doubt and damn sure can never forgive her if she is actually wrong.
Never allow a black woman to be a flawed human who can make mistakes, react poorly or make a bad decision.
It’s the same in real life, so I don’t think it’s all in the writing.
The fact that Black Lightning isn’t nearly as popular as the rest of the CW’s DC shows despite being 3x better is proof y’all don’t care about rep when it’s not white. Literally a bullet proof lesbian as a main lead but you don’t care bc she’s black and an activist. If you are bitching about lack of rep in on CW and then sleep on BL you need to sit the fuck down and shut up.
EDIT: people who continue to reblog this with my edits explicitly saying to not reblog this are going to be blocked.
Here’s more truth: Black Lightning is too black for the CW audience. It’s not black in a fun way that’s accessible like black sitcoms that are like “See? We’re just like you!” and it’s not black in an Empire way that mostly explores stereotypes that white people are so easily entertained by.
Black Lightning is black in a real way that makes makes white people uncomfortable. Gang violence, police brutality, the government experimenting on people/putting drugs in poor black neighborhoods – this happened, this happens.
There’s no fun bubbly white best friend or nice white family anywhere to break up the blackness, or inject levity into the bleak reality of cities like Freeland and people just don’t wanna face it.
Yet, those same people will tell black people we’re exaggerating about racial issues, institutionalized racism, police brutality, neglect, and corruption or they’ll just feign ignorance.
At the end of the day it’s like every other superhero show on tv, it’s about superheroes trying to protect the city they live in. It’s better than the rest because it’s so much more grounded in reality.
And well, I think the white wlw fandom all over social media has proven several times over by now that they just don’t give a damn about queer black women as a whole.
I was working on my ships list since I’m apparently now just redoing all the theme things and I realize I really need to update it with actual ships that are still together and ones from stuff I’m actually watching now. Canon or fanon. It’s so outdated and full of either canceled shows or canceled ships, san just a good handful
I just finished watching the new show A Million Little Things and I… I love it and I feel shattered by it. It is such a powerful show and I highly recommend it. Forewarning though it does trigger some things. It really is brilliant though.
it’s pretty incredible how quickly the tbt fandom on tumblr has gone radio silent and almost non-existent. and i’m not blaming anyone for that except the writers. but i’m thinking about how last year we made it through a nine month hiatus as a small fandom and kept things alive and exciting, and this time around it was like dead quiet within two or three weeks. it’s ironic- tbt is coming back sooner this time but it doesn’t matter bc on a fandom level in terms of hype theyre already irrelevant. i can’t imagine how it’ll be by the time they finally come back in the spring
TBT in spring 2019: we’re back!
Kadena fandom:
I mean…for people watching specifically for Kadena or Adena there is no reason to watch as of now. Them refusing to verify if Adena returns and Nikohl clearly not taping for at least the first half of the season means there’s nothing to talk about but the past for them.
I’m interested to see how the reviews do over the next full season and if they get renewed.
Kat is my main concern. And the trio is my reason for watching. So regardless of Kadena’s fate, I’ll be watching but I don’t even know what any of this is about, it’s clear that the fandom wasn’t happy with where they ended last season and I guess from what I see here, things are looking bleak for them next season.
That is definitely heartbreaking.
That’s definitely because a lot of folks here only watched for Kadena or bandwagoned on for them late but there are folks who still watch for the girls themselves and the trio and fandom def shifts from platform to platform.
Last I’ll say but I must- I don’t know if this is suddenly coming from the fact that fans wanted Kat’s blackness discussed and pointedly addressed or not but if it is fandom is dead wrong to try and use “whitewashing” as a term for Adena and try to compare her religion in this case. We spent pretty much the entirety of season one focused on Adena’s faith and how that affected her status in the US and it’s effect on Kat while blatantly ignoring Kat’s blackness and how that played into her choices and actions while helping Adena (ie the punch to the white man in the street and arrest) to stay.
Adena’s faith has never been denied her by her characterization or the narrative.
