My hot take based on that sneak peek/promo combo is that this is going to take a deeper dive into queer sexuality and what it means to discover yourself when you are raised in a world where you think straight is the only way. This storyline isnt going to be angsty in a way where Kat hates herself, but more so in the growing up lgbtq people have to do later in life because of the nature of our heteronormative society. Yes she’s in love with Adena and she was able to come to terms with that because she felt a greater connection with Adena. She was able to rationalize that. She now needs to understand her sexuality in the grander scheme of things for her relationship with Adena to last long term.

Of course this is going to cause drama and tension and mistakes will definitely be made, but if we want to talk about realness on the bold type… this is real. And I really hope everyone will be patient and just see where this story goes because I think it is fascinating so far.

I also think this is either going to end up in an even better love confession than episode 2.04 or make-up sex. So either or both is a win.

Adding to this I really have to give the show kudos for continuing to really take time to develop their 3 leads through topics/situations that are sometimes really uncomfortable and not ideal and messy, but ultimately realistic. Kat – who has always slept around but never been in a relationship is now navigating this completely new relationship with Adena and meeting other members of the community and learning things and interacting with others outside of Adena. That’s something other shows rarely take the time to do (genre and whether the character is really main has a part to play in that). But more than that it’s them actually touching on the fact that when you’ve opened the door to this ‘new’ part of yourself you will not only inevitably meet other people you find attractive, but there’ll also be people out there attracted to you and being in a relationship does not erase any of that. What’s more is that Kat is somewhat of a public figure – especially now with her promotion and by the ep 8(?) description possible future brand spokesperson plus. She’s almost oblivious to the amount of people out there who are into her or might approach her.

Much like Adena choosing to be in the US to be with Kat, being in a relationship is a lot about making conscious choices, weighing all the other variables and feelings and still choosing that person. It’s not something you coast through. So I’m personally really excited to see where this leads Kat.
