Folks really still out here lying on Darla Sutton in comments for drama in 2018

I find it interesting that the only people who actually understand the complexities of a Black character of all ages who’s a woman/girl are always Black women. We are the only one that sees our own humanity even in characters that aren’t real.
Most the time with some exceptions. I have never seen more black women in my fandom life be so ugly as they are about Darla Sutton on Queen Sugar just because they refuse to say they hold bias because she’s a recovering addict and coddles Rah only because they thirst over Kofi…lol
Ahhh I have notice a trend that when the show is considered a “Black” show, I see more Black women being ugly towards the women on the show and its always seems to be in defense of Black men. Yet if the show is majority white or non-Black that’s when I see the rally to protect Black women on shows happen. I feel like there is something to unpack there on why there is such a switch in protection but I honestly don’t know. I have seen some hate towards Charlie as well before and I was just like..why? Lol
Oh yeah its a fact and yep Charley got (and gets it still but not as rampant) too. Nova has as of late got a shift of it as well but the writing has fed into that for her this year- outside of folks bringing factors like her sexuality into it when that shouldn’t be and is not the issue but yeah. Lots to unpack on that.
Same happened with Lynn on Black Lightning and again same set up with show and majority audience
See this is the interesting thing. I haven’t actually watched Queen Sugar yet but I feel protective of the Black women on the show for alot of reasons. These women seem like 3 dimensional characters that have alot of layers and complexities that can’t just be unpack in one episode. I know of the hate that’s starting to target Nova because of the storyline that’s been given to her, and while I understand the discomfort and ugliness of the storyline I do wonder if the hate would be the same if Nova was a man. It seems like the men have to be “ain’t sh*t” from the beginning to the end without any redeeming qualities for people to just write them off. Lynn from Black Lightning literally got hate for putting her mental and emotional health first. She never stop loving Jeff or their children. She didn’t even dropped off the face of the earth after she divorced him and probably let him have full physical custody of the kids. Yet because she couldn’t deal with the stress and worry like a regular person she was hated for not seeing how Jefferson was a good man even though she never said that he wasnt. She was hated for not blindly following him and sacrificing her self-health for him. And I think there’s a deeper conversation that needs to be had on how we see Black women value on what they can and do..do for others. And how much sacrificing that they do for others while having to be perfect. Black women are disregarded too fast in real life when they don’t live up to this unattainable standard and it has feed into the fandom world of how we see Black female characters. I hope this make sense.
Well I will say re Nova ’s sl Remy is getting as much drag because of the turn and choices by the fandom. You and I have spoken at length about Lynn so you know how I feel on that and agree with all you said.
