We need much more media that features women of color in relationships with other women of color. Most of the media that does show lbpq women of color characters puts them in relationships with white women/white people. And those relationships, predictably, tip the balance of power in favor the white person. You’ll notice that plot narratives center around emphasizing the autonomy of the white woman/white person at the expense of the woman of color’s health/wellbeing/autonomous development.
Also, it’s incredibly important to show healthy romantic love between two women of color. We need the power to reclaim our capacity to love, to be loved, and to rid our lives of whiteness and the white gaze as much as possible.
Alright, if Tyrone and Tandy are endgame. Then you better give Evita an incredible love interest, because she’s just incredible. She’s always kind, she loves Tyrone so much. And she’s just amazingly sweet, and protective.
And Mina too, give them all an incredible hero-love-chosen family story.

Edit: I know there are already black gods and goddesses in mythology native to Africa. And I’d love to explore those characters and their personalities. Like many bookworms, I loved Greek mythology when i was younger and I thought it’d be cool to cast them with black people in the roles to celebrate blackness. Plus, greek mythology has been interpreted and reinterpreted in so many many ways. And let’s face it: they’re gods. They can look however they want and baby: black is beautiful 🤷🏾♀️
