Loretta Devine is truly a gift. She brings it to whatever she does. One of the reasons why I was sad to know that I could never purchase the movie Funny Valentine with Loretta Devine, Alfre Woodard and C.C.H Pounder. 3 ladies I grew up watching and appreciating their work.

breaks at how that moment and things he said is still real for so many

Ok let me preface this by saying it may be an unpopular opinion but I don’t hate Ruby- but I cannot stop thinking about the fact that Yasir asked her point blank if she felt like he was using her and with all his guilt he knew he was and at least acknowledged that within himself but she just sat there cool as all like she, even with the leverage and couch, was also not using him right back to keep appearance with her parents. And refused to give him a straight answer.
Yes, he has no other good or safe options for a place to stay but she really laid it all on and made him wanting to go back home to his son about her and what her parents would say while also padding the lie about them still being together and arranging that dinner with them after she’d healed. Like I know Yasir is the furthest in the front of the struggle bus right now so he couldn’t object but I just keep thinking about the line from Wiser Yasir, “There’s a thin line between being loved and being used and guilt is the glue that holds that line together.” And I just..What is her guilt?
Upon rewatch last night I think her guilt is the fact that Yasir supported her financially, physically, and emotionally to get her to LA (She says it in the first scene how he gave her money, packed and drove her down, and convinced her parents to stop guilting her) and now he’s totally without while she’s starting to flourish. She uses it in the moment to try and best him but I really think all of that was done so she could make him feel worse before he could say it all because of Nuri and her understandable still hurt feelings there.
