Queen Sugar S3:E9 The Tree and Stone Were One

Then gon’ ask me how I’m doin’? I’M UPSET. This ep was directed by Nijla Mumin and co-written by Anthony Sparks + Kat Candler. 3×08 recap.

I will sing the songs
The Creator gave to me when I and the
Tree and the stone were one
.

Before cynicism was a bloody sear across your
Brow and when you yet knew you still
Knew nothing.

The river wants the good old days back. She misses the time on earth when man was at peace with himself and the world. Before we knew of nothing. (*Plato said that “true wisdom is knowing we know nothing.”) Before humans started walking the earth with literally no shame that their actions were motivated purely by their own selfish desires. The river just wants unity, and we could experience this harmony she speaks of if we could only choose peace and stop studying war.

I agree with most all of this but the stuff about Jacob. For me- He can keep his grimy self and lips as far away from Charley at all times from here on out. No need for any repeats of that scene either.

As far as Darla goes, the only thing I will say is this. Before she came back, every time she called she tried to talk to Rah and he wouldn’t hear it and passed the phone to Blue. She has suggested alternatives to the situation and said 50/50 to which he bucked and tried to shame her accomplishments outta envy and fear. He’s pushed her to this paperwork and I hope they can find some way to work this all out.

Here’s the thing…on paper I get why Nova and Remy would be a thing.  They are both passionate advocates for their comunities. They both feel the need to help those who need a chance.  I get it.  But like this sort of bond should have been going on in season 1…..not a quick glance at the end of season 2 and now here we go in season 3.

The only part that upsets me is that it was a secret. How could neither Nova nor Remy just say something, anything to Charley? She’d basically seen thru him already and was out doing her thing bc he’d put a pause on their situation. All they had to do was come to her. This sneaking around thing really undermines what could have been a pleasant surprise for viewers and makes it needless drama on a show that’s packed full of drama already.

Cause it wasn’t right to do and they both knew it. Every attraction doesn’t have to be acted on just because you feel it and with someone you know your sister was with and still cared for? Foul. That’s why they hid it and lied about it.

What lies beneath this?

Nova and Charley have been at odds since the series began. There has been a brokenness that we were introduced to from pilot on and it only shifting toward some semblance of healing in S2 but with all that we have now I gotta wonder…what else is happening here? Quotes through series under the cut

“Nah, we ain’t close like that.” Nova to Rid about Charley 1×01

The entirety of 1×02 with Nova to Charley tbh and “And we certainly don’t pay our respects with American Express. NOW GET THOSE FOLKS OUT THAT YARD!.” -Nova to Charley 1×02

The stealing of the 10K from Charley’s farm account for Too Sweet’s bail (which was never repaid as far as we know) and that entire fight by both parties. Episode 1×07

“And don’t ever talk to me about anybody triflin’ ass” Charley to Nova 1×07

‘You ain’t worried about me, so just don’t get in it at all” Nova to Charley 1×08

“Everybody doesn’t run from home and family just cause shit gets tough” Nova to Charley 1×08 (This one has stuck with me since this scene)

The entire kitchen fight in 1×08 by both parties

-Season 2 had grace and not much conflict between them personally

The mill fight at Vi’s

“So you betray our family, get in bed with the enemy, and all you got was 1%? That’s what we’re worth?” Nova to Charley 3×03

“You don’t know shit.” Nova to Charley 3×03

(This is also notably where Micah turned on Charley after that same fight and went to stay the night at Nova’s where she then defends Charley but only to Micah at her house that night. Second time in series- ironically enough the first time was about him being open to Charley seeing Remy in 1×11*)

Then enter S3 and this with the lying and hiding up to last night and- this just prior to  the reveal at Get Out: The Landry sequel- “I understand that anyone willing to betray their own flesh and blood is someone I need to be wary of.” “Maybe that’s how you treat family, but we don’t do that.” Charley to Francis Boudreaux

“When I told you about the mill you let me know how wrong I was. You were unrelenting. It wasn’t the first time, but it will be the last.” Charley to Nova 3×09

“But I know now. You can’t trust anyone. Not even your own blood.” Charley to Remy 3×09

I’m feeling more and more that this all has some underlined something from the past we still don’t know at this point re the writing and I’m curious as to what it is.

Thoughts?

That doesn’t even make sense on paper for a romance with no chemistry. They could and should have built a friendship that they barely had. Both being advocates doesn’t suddenly make a romantic relationship make sense when they never even shared a scene with just them alone until now.

This bitch really said “please don’t hate me”

I really want Nova to suffer for this decision. She’s choosing a man over her sister. There should be no quick fix or forgiveness. I want that temporary happiness to sour in her soul because she built her happiness on her sister’s pain. Regarding Remy, FUCK HIM. FUCK THAT COWBOY HAT. FUCK HIS TEN JOBS. JUST FUCK HIM.

Not the cowboy hat lmao!

watchmythrone13:

on twitter and youtube comments I’ve seen: “Charley and Remy weren’t official” (um what?) “Remy was a rebound” “Charley and Remy never had sex” (well he’s seen her damn near naked.) “Nova knew Remy first” “Charley didn’t pay any attention to Remy” “Remy and Nova have more chemistry” (first of all, that’s lust and loneliness)

When people start falling back on technicalities, they know they’re wrong. Just say you don’t like Charley and leave.

and ralph angel i’m bout sick of you actin like a little bitch!!! darla went through hell to recover and get herself up on her feet to take care of blue and be the best person she can be! let’s stop acting like you’re not an ex con who made mistakes and was the best dad in the world! darla rarely, if ever, talks about you being in and out of the pin. she hold you accountable for your present mistakes AS A PARENT! you were wrong to have these people in and out of your damn house without orienting blue setting stronger standards! you are entitled to being hurt, but you don’t have a right to dangle all of darla’s mistakes over her head and keep her son from her when you fuck up to!!
